Ghana International midfielder Thomas Partey featured as an impact sub coming on for Yannick Carrasco in the 68th minute with the score at 1-1 to help Atletico Madrid win the game 4-1.

The score might suggest an easy match for Atletico if you haven't seen the game but it was not at all the case. In the end the quality of Diego Simeone's subs of the bench made the difference but the score line flatters them.

Sporting Gijon were by far the better side in the first half, dominating possession although failing to put away some half chances they got.

Atletico Madrid responded well in the second half scoring some 33seconds after the restart through Yannick Carrasco who was at hand to pounce on a rebound after his shot was not dealt with properly by the goalkeeper. Sergio Alvarez got the equalizer almost immediately after he latched onto a cross to put the ball in the bottom left corner.

Gijon continued to dominate the game until the arrival of Thomas Partey and Gameiro who brought freshness and purpose to the side with the latter grabbing  a hat trick to ensure Victory for the Madrid side.

Thomas Partey had a huge hand in Atletico's 3rd goal as his closing down led to an error which eventually put Gameiro on goal for his second. It was a good outing for the Ghanaian who recently signed a contract extension with the club that will see him stay at the Madrid based club until 2020.
