The Ashanti Regional Head of the Electoral Commission, Mr Siriboe Quaicoe, has said three bags of already thumb-printed ballot papers which were intercepted at a hotel in the regional capital Kumasi are counterfeits.

The ballot papers have all been thumb-printed for President John Mahama, flag bearer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), and kept in a room at the Madison Lodge at TUC in Kumasi.

The situation has caused over 500 supporters of the NPP to throng the Central Police Command in the regional capital to demand answers.

Mr Quaicoe confirmed the incident to Chief Jerry Forson, host of Accra100.5FM’s breakfast show Ghana Yensom but denied that the papers were from the EC.

“All ballot papers from the Electoral Commission have serial numbers, what we saw have no serial numbers,” he said, adding: “I cannot tell where they are coming from; it is a matter for the police to investigate and find out who printed them.”

“They are not ballot papers printed by the Electoral Commission, they have been printed by someone, they are clear counterfeits so there is no way they can be part of the EC’s authentic ballot papers,” he said.
