The President of the Republic, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated  20 years old boxer, Samuel Takyi aka ‘the Golden Ring  Warrior’ for winning a medal at the ongoing Tokyo Olympic Games for Ghana.

The boxer on Tuesday morning fell short in the semi-final contest as he lost to American Duke Ragan.

Regardless, he had already secured the bronze medal in the featherweight division at the 2020 Olympic Games following two previous impressive victories.

Delighted with the win just like all Ghanaians, President Akufo-Addo has extended a message of congratulations to the 20-year old for winning the country’s first medal at the Olympic games in the last three decades.

“Big congratulations to Samuel Takyi from all of us at home, for hoisting high the flag of Ghana at the Tokyo Olympics, and for winning a bronze medal, Ghana’s first Olympic medal in 29 years. Well done,” a post on the Facebook page of the President has said.

Samuel Takyi’s success sees him becoming the fourth Ghanaian boxer to pick a medal for the West African country at the Olympic Games.

Other boxers who have won medals are Clement Quartey [1960-Silver], late Eddie Blay [1964-Bronze], and Prince Amartey [1972-Bronze].

The Black Meteors also won bronze in football in 1992.
