U.K foreign Secretary Boris Johnson will visit Ghana on Wednesday, as part of a two days visit to Africa,ghanaguardian.com can confirm

Mr  Boris Johnson will pay a courtesy call on  President Nana Akufo Addo  to discuss the key opportunities and challenges facing the country.

He will also meet some high-ranking ministers and some members  of the Business community

The key themes of his visit to Accra are to improve and promote commercial ties between the UK and Ghana, as part of the wider Ghana-U.K bilaterall relationship and to encourage Ghana's continued progress along its current positive democratic and economic path.

His two days visit will first see him travelling to The Gambia to meet President Adama Barrow on Tuesday, which will be first recorded visit to The Gambia by a Foreign Secretary,  and will take the opportunity to visit the UK-funded Medical Research Council in the country.

He has already expressed his delight ahead of the visit describing it as a "chance" to meet newly erected presidents.

"I’m delighted to be the first Foreign Secretary to visit Gambia this week and delighted to have a chance to meet the newly elected President Barrow and President Akufo-Addo of Ghana. Their elections highlight the continuing strengthening of democracy in West Africa", he said.

"I am also very pleased that Gambia wants to rejoin the Commonwealth and we will ensure this happens in the coming months. The strength of our partnerships show that Global Britain is growing in influence and activity around the world.

VISITING BLUE SKIES

Boris Johnson is expected to visit  the award-winning Blue Skies, a British company with operations in Ghana.

He will also meet business leaders and young entrepreneurs supported by the Department for International Development’s ENGINE project, and meet with “Rising Black Stars” highlighting both countries’ extensive cultural ties, official   U.K  Government Information department says.

 

Mr Boris Johnson, who recently  renounced his U.S. citizenship,  has been UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs since July 2016

He had previously been an MP for the Henley constituency from 2001 to 2008 and was later Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016.

He was born in New York when his parents worked there, but has not lived there since he was five years old.
