Ghanaian soldier Lance Corporal Albert Abrefa Busia, one of the peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, who was recently injured during a missile attack, is recovering. This news was revealed after UN officials led by the Secretary-General António Guterres visited him at the hospital after surgery.

According to a statement from the United Nations, the soldier has successfully undergone surgery and is responding well to treatment.

“Great to learn that Lance Corporal Albert Abrefa Busia of Ghana, one of the peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon who was recently injured during a missile attack, is recovering,” the UN said in a statement.

In the midst of intensifying hostilities between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was hit by missiles on Friday, March 6.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) said in a previous statement that during continuing gunfights in the vicinity, two missiles impacted the base between 17:45 and 17:52 local time.

Initially, the military reported that one soldier had trauma and two others were gravely hurt. But according to the Ministry of Defence's most recent report on March 7, four injured servicemen are now stable and recuperating.

Officials report that the soldier, who sustained severe injuries to both legs and the hip, successfully underwent surgery on Saturday morning after his transportation to Beirut.

The UN has reaffirmed its demands that peacekeepers working in crisis areas be protected.
