The running mate to the presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Ms Brigitte Dzogbenuku, has advised the electorate to choose leaders who have vision and good policies that would advance the development of the country.

She said as this year’s election drew closer, some of the parties would come around and dole out freebies in exchange for their votes.

She,however, added that this should not be the best way to assess political parties and urged the electorate to base their choice on the plans the parties have for the country.

Delivering on promises

Ms Dzogbenuku made the call when she addressed PPP supporters at Sepe Buokrom during the first day of her three-day tour of the region.

She said the PPP did not believe in empty promises but committed to delivering on what would move the nation forward.

According to her, the life of the flag bearer of the party is a testimony for the people to know that the party is capable of delivering on its promises.

She asked the people to vote for the PPP as it was the only party that believed in the welfare of the people and would ensure that it delivered on its promises.

The running mate said the PPP believed in all-inclusiveness and would ensure that all parts of the country would get their fair share of national development.

Besides that, she said the party believed in women and their contribution to national development.

She said that was the reason why the presidential candidate selected her as his running mate.

Ms Dzogbenuku thus appealed to the electorate to spread the good news to all and be the agents of change that the PPP stood for.

Parliamentary candidate

The PPP aspiring Parliamentary Candidate for Manhyia North, Ms Bertrin Amponsah Biritwum, for her part, said it was time for the constituency to have a new leadership as the previous MPs had not been able to advance the cause of the area.

She said the PPP had lots of programmes for the constituency, especially to promote education in the area.

According to her, the PPP would create jobs for the people and also institute a scholarship scheme for brilliant, needy students in the constituency to enable them to get the necessary education that would prepare them for the job market.

She promised a library for each electoral area if voted for.

Currently, she said the party was organising remedial and vacation classes for students in the constituency to ensure they passed their exams.
