Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson says he is “very satisfied” with his team’s overall performance at the 2025 WAFU B U20 Girls’ Cup, despite losing their title to Nigeria after two defeats to the Falconets.

Ghana played four matches in the tournament:

  • Wins: 2 (both vs Benin)

  • Losses: 2 (both vs Nigeria)

  • Goals Scored: 5

  • Goals Conceded: 6

Sampson: “We’re Building Something Great”

“Our lack of concentration to concede a goal like this is hard to take… But the purpose of coming here is also to see certain things about us that we need to develop.”

Sampson emphasized the developmental value of the tournament, noting that the experience will help the team grow tactically and mentally ahead of future competitions.

“I’m very happy that we’re able to experience this while we have something great ahead of us.”

Ghana's Sarah who plays her club football for Dreamz Ladies was adjudged Most Valuable Player of the tournament after she had put up incredible performances throughout the campaign, as she notched three goals and provided an assist in Ghana's four matches played at the tournament. Sarah succeeds Stella Nyamekye, who also won the MVP award in the maiden edition in Kumasi back in 2023.

Though Ghana failed to defend their title, this tourney gives head coach Charles Sampson the opportunity to tune up his team ahead of the upcoming FIFA U20 Women's World Cup qualifier against South Africa.
