The Paramount Chief of the Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area, Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II, has backed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) plan to carve another region out of the Western Region.

According to him, the vision is a good one and will bring the needed development to the northern part of the region.

The NPP Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, on a tour of the Western region, promised to craft an 11th region out of the region should he emerge winner in the December polls.

But the Deputy Water Resources, Works and Housing Minister, Sampson Ahi, who’s also the MP for Bodi in the Western Region, rubbished his promise as political gimmick.

But speaking at his palace when Nana Addo paid a courtesy call on him at Wassa Akropong, Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II said the realization of Nana Addo’s promise would be long over due.

“I have heard this week that you [Nana Addo] are saying you will create another region out of the western region. In fact, looking at the development deficit in a region that produces around 70 percent of Ghana’s resources, the creation of the Western North Region will bring the development long overdue. The contribution of the western region to the national kitty does not reflect its development”.

He called on a Nana Addo led government to appoint members from the western Region into his cabinet “to be part of the sharing of the nation’s resources”.
