The Chief of Staff Mr Julius Debrah has revealed that the Arabic Language will be examinable at the Senior High School starting from 2017, making it now been formalised as part of the curriculum.

The Chief of Staff  made the announcement at the inauguration ceremony  of the  Federation Of Islamic  Senior High schools (FISHSIG) at the Legon Campus on Saturday.

Mr Julius Debrah, speaking on behalf of the president, revealed that the Mahama administration is prepared  to support the Islamic Schools who are already in the teaching of Arabic language to make the the teaching of the subject a success.

"Having worked so   assiduously and very hard with the  Education ministry, His Excellency  would like to inform you that starting from 2017, the Arabic    language is going to examinable at the SHS level",

Payment and plans have been put in place and by 2018 the Arabic language could also be examinable at the BECE level",   he said.

"To show President the Government's commitment to peace and improvement of education in the country,  the government is going to ensure that the colleges of education are empowered to  train more Arabic  scholars and Islamic teachers."

The introduction of the Arabic language comes after appeals from the various Islamic school to Government to make the the study of Arabic a priority to help unearth aptitude and generate interest at all levels of Eduaction, just as it has been done to the Study of  English and  French languages in the country.

The inauguration of the  Federation    Of Islamic  Senior High schools in Ghana (FISHSIG) is to foster unity and cohesion among  the various Muslim owned schools across the country.Its basic aim is to bring all the schools under one umbrella in promoting  quality  and  holistic education in the country.

"The Arabic Language is one of the fastest growing language in Ghana with a high  demand for skilled graduates.This  step will help to develop skills, confidence and interest in the subject,"  says the president of the Federation, Sheikh Ahmed Kaamil.

The Federation will have  branches across the country to ensure a smooth running and proper communication, while focusing on what promises to be a bright future for the the various Muslim-owned schools in light of reform to be undertaken by the federation.
