The Staff of the Ghana Ports and Habours Authority have withdrawn allegations they leveled against the Board Chairman of the Authority, Peter Mac Manu, his wife and sons and have unreservedly apologized to them.

The staff about a month ago at a press conference addressed by the chairman of the Senior Staff Association, John Aseeph,  alleged that the wife of the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman has taken over ticketing for staff travels, adding the Authority “is being priced at cut-throat prices.”

“We are paying two and three times more than other competitors are offering for ticketing,” he alleged. The Union further accused Mr Mac Manu of awarding a $4 million contract to wire the newly constructed electrical and materials block of GHAPOHA to his own company.

“He has for himself seven companies in the Port – five Stevedore companies and two cleaning companies. If the board needs to take decision on Stevedore companies in the port of which the board chair alone holds five, how can he hold fairness at such a time,” Mr. Aseeph stressed.

He added: “He is intimidating management staff, and as well interfering in the day to day running of the Authority.”

But Peter Mac Manu described as “bogus and rubbish” accusation of conflict of interest leveled against him by the Staff, urging the public to treat the allegations with the contempt that it deserves.

He further went ahead and demanded that they retract or he’ll sue them.

The Staff at a Press conference on Friday June 22, made a volte face over the allegations claiming certain facts have come to their notice which on hindsight, they would not have brought the allegations against Mac Manu and his family into the public domain.

“We of the Union want to put it on record we did not call the Press conference and level allegations against the Chairman out of malice. As a union and social partner with a common objective of working together with management towards achieving the objectives of GPHA . We had serious concerns about happenings in GPHA which we were not happy about, After the press conference, it has come to our notice that we did not engage management the more as we should have done before holding the press conference.

“Some facts have come to our notice which on hindsight, would not have brought into public domain against Mr Peter Mac Manu and his family at our press conference. We therefore withdraw the allegation against Mr Peter Mac Manu in particular, his wife and sons and unreservedly apologize to him.”
