President Nana Akufo-Addo has hinted on making university education in the country free should his government be able to fix the economy.

The President who is currently on a 3-day tour in the Eastern Region made this statement at an end-of-year party organized for children by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection at his hometown of Kyebi.

He said his government is trying hard to fix the economy and if they are able to improve it, plans will be made to make university education universally free after the smooth implementation of the Free Senior High School Program.

“I have two things to share with you on education. First the government treasures education and so, we will do everything to make it easily accessible to all children. If God permits and we are able to fix this economy for it to improve, we will even make university education free,” the President stated.

He further assured that the ongoing Free SHS policy “will never be cancelled. It is here to stay. It is an irreversible piece of social legislation. When we leave, it will remain.”

President Akufo-Addo added that his government's aim to ensure that are children are able to better their lives through education.
