A constitutional referendum will be held in Ghana on 17 December 2019.  The proposed amendments of the constitution will allow local government elections to be partisan.

The issue, since it came up, has sprouted division among experts and top players in the political space including the two biggest political parties.

While the governing NPP is strongly campaigning for a 'YES' votes, opposition NDC says people should vote 'NO' on the d-day.

However, some individuals who have weighed the issues from both sides think that, the date set for the referendum (17th December) should be changed.

The latest to add his voice to the matter, is the Executive Director of Irbard Security Consult, Alhaji Irbard Ibrahim.

According to Irbard, the postponement of the date for the referendum is necessary.

He opined that it will allow some space for a national consensus-building on the issue.

"December 17 Referendum should be postponed to allow time for national consensus building on the issue", Irbard wrote on Facebook sighted by Ghanaguardian.com.

Meanwhile, there is a controversy in the National House of Chiefs over whether or not the House has taken a position on a 'NO' or a 'YES' vote in the upcoming national exercise.
