The Chief of Asokore Mampong in the Ashanti Region has kicked against the New Partiotic Party(NPP) plan to to create another region, describing it as a recipe for disunity.
Nana Boakye Ansah Debra says it will be better to create more districts and municipalities which he described as more development oriented.

The Chief made this call in his palace when the vice presidential candidate of the NPP Dr Mahmud Bawumia and his campaign team paid a courtesy call  him as part of their campaign in the Ashanti Region.

"I would make it clear to you that the creation of more regions will  bring nothing but disunity. The best thing to do, should rather be the creation of more districts, municipals," he advised.

"I have worked with the Kumasi Metropolitant Assembly(KMA) before as a presiding member.I was there as a chief and not as a politician and I can tell you the kind of ordeal Asokore Mampong community went through.

"We will expect you to create more districts and you will earn our support. But should you be in power and carry on with this plan of creating more regions, then we wont support you any way."

Both the NDC and NPP have promised to create more regions to enhance administration, a move which has been lauded by some governance experts.

Whiles the NPP has promised to create another region from the western region to "facilitate development in the northern part of the western region", the NDC on other hand has promised to create five more regions to bring to 15 the total administrative regions in the country.

But Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah argues creation of more regions is rather a recipe for disaster, and appealed to political parties to look at what the Asokore Mampong Munipal has achieved after it was created out of the KMA.

The Assembly was adjudged the best performing of all 216 metropolitan, municipal and districts assemblies for achieving 80 per cent of its action plan for 2015 ,and the Chief believes it is as result of being separated from the KMA.

"You have seen the performance of this  Assembly just within this short period. We would not  have achieved this great feat if we were to still be part of the KMA," he said.

So I will appeal to you that should Ghanaians give you their mandate, and for the sake of rapid development to take place, focus on creating more districts instead of regions" he added.

He thanked Dr Bawumia and his team and asked all to ensure Ghana goes to the 2016 election in peace.
