Commercial Drivers at the New Takoradi-Harbour area have threatened to discontinue the payment of road worthy charges if government does not fix their deplorable roads.

According to the agitated drivers, several promises by government to make the roads motorable have proved futile.

The drivers told Starr News’ Emmanuel Ohene Gyan they spend thousands of Cedis in car maintenance alone.

“We are repairing the roads by ourselves because efforts to get it fixed have fallen on deaf ears. We have been promised on several occasions that the road will be fixed but none has seen day light.

"On daily basis we have to visit the mechanic to either repair a burst tyre, damaged shocks etc. and we sometimes lose our source of livelihood because of the nature of the roads and its effect on our vehicles. They always wait till elections to make promises and afterwards nothing happens. We want to tell government that if they don’t fix it we will not pay our road worthy because it’s not necessary".
