Yaasalam Opportunity Center has welcomed 23 student-journalists from Kent State University (Akron-Ohio) from United States of America. The students are in Ghana for a two-week International Storytelling Program under the supervision of Prof. Mitch , Associate Professor of Journalism and Mass Communications.

The study abroad delegation are being hosted by the Webster University--Ghana Campus.

The delegation was referred to Yaasalam Opportunity Center by the Akron Community Foundation and the Global  Ties Akron due to the positive impacts made by the CEO of the center, Abdulsalam Mohammed Daaru, during his Community Solution capacity building program, which earned him the title: "Young Ambassador for Akron" 

The team that visited the students include Mr. Abdulsalam Mohammed Daaru, C.E.O of Yaasalam Opportunity Center, Mr. Alhassan Y. Babalwaiz, Board Member of the Yaasalam Opportunity Center, 

Abdul Hamid Mohammed, Deputy Director PPF Research and Peace Institute, Kandey Alhassan, a Student-journalist at the Ghana Institute of Journalism and  Mr Sampanzee Baba from Ayawaso multimedia group.

Welcoming the students, Mr. Mohammed said that like Ohio, Ghana is a peaceful country with hospitable people. He introduced the Akron Accra Partnership Board to the delegation, whose objective he explained, is to deepen institutional and cultural connection between Akron-Ohio and Ghana. Mr. Mohammed wished the delegates a productive and safe working visit while assuring the team of the center"s readiness to assist them in carrying out their various assignments.

 On his part, Mr. Alhassan Y. Babalwaiz, who is a United Nations-honored journalist and a board member of Yaasalam Opportunity Center, reminded the team of the ethics of the profession and advised them to be objective in their reportage, while urging them to be mindful of the fact that Ghana is an emerging economy on the move to take off.

Areas to be covered by the students include mental health and suicide, girl-child education, entrepreneurship, fishing culture, cocoa industry, Zongo communities, human trafficking, the sate of the media, Music and Dance, Reggae sub- culture, fashion, the health sector and many more.

 Yaasalam Opportunity Center is a Social Responsibility arm of Afro-Arab group of companies established to empower the youth of Ghana.
