The former  Deputy National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Joseph Yamin has hinted of contesting as  the Ashanti regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) when the party  opens nominations in the future.

He explained that he wants to be in that position to add his expertise of amassing votes for the party in the region to return to power in the next four years.

Mr Yamin stated that though there are calls for him to contest at the national level, he believes he wants to start from the regional level where he has much strength.

‘I will contest for Ashanti regional chairman when NDC opens nomination, its not about sacking our current chairman Owusu Obimpeh. I contested in the Kwadaso parliamentary seat but lost the elections on two occasions. In 2009 NDC members push me and I became the regional secretary of the party, so this one is a gradual step. I will go back to the NDC after the date and time are set for the congress and appeal to them to give me the mandate. If they give me the power, I can assure you that NDC will bounce back in power in four years,’ he explained.

The NDC was grossly defeated by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 7, 2016 polls with a wide margin.

Speaking with host of Abusua Nkommo Kwame Adinkrah on Abusua FM, Mr Yamin expressed hope that the party will return to power in 2020 to steer the affairs of the nation.

According to him, the party is still vibrant and they are going to the drawing board to work on their mistakes adding that they are not losing hope of winning the presidency again.

He indicated that they will work feverishly the moment their executives are put in place.

‘We are not shaking at all, in four years, we are coming back to power. In 2012, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) bluffed that they were winning the elections but they lost eventually, so don’t get it twisted that Ghanaians did not buy our ideas. We are not losing hope, we will surprise people in 2020, politics is about hard work, how you put in your work. As I talk to you now, the NDC is in the process of restructuring, I believe NDC members are poised to make amends in the reorganisation, and immediately we put in place the regional and national executives, the game starts’ he said.
