Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko are set to battle it out in the inaugural Democracy Cup, a special event organized to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ghana's legislature.

Scheduled for Friday, July 5, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium, the match between the two traditional rivals promises to be a highlight of the celebrations.

In a unique twist, the event will also feature a friendly match between members of Parliament and former Black Stars players, adding to the excitement of the occasion.

The announcement was made by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, who revealed that the winner of the Hearts vs. Kotoko match will earn the opportunity to play against DC United in Washington, a privilege granted in recognition of Parliament's remarkable achievements.

Rt. Hon. Bagbin expressed gratitude to supportive partners and stakeholders for proposing the establishment of the Democracy Cup as a way to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the 1992 constitution and the Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

"The establishment of the Democracy Cup is a testament to the significant contributions of Parliament, and it will serve as a fitting tribute to our achievements," Rt. Hon. Bagbin remarked.

With the inclusion of the Democracy Cup, the celebrations surrounding Ghana's legislature are set to be even more vibrant and memorable, highlighting the nation's democratic journey over the past three decades.
