2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers: Black Stars should be wary of dangerous Mali- Yaw Preko
28th August 2025
Former Ghana international and head coach of Shooting Stars Accra, Yaw Preko, has urged the Black Stars to remain cautious ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali.
Ghana, who top Group I with 15 points after six matches, will first travel to N’Djamena to face Chad on September 4, before hosting Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 8.
Speaking to Asempa FM, the former Ghana international described Mali as a strong opponent with the potential to cause problems for the Black Stars.
“I think Mali are a dangerous side. They believe that they can come here and cause an upset, but I believe Ghanaians will support the team. But it will not be an easy game,” Preko cautioned.
He added that the appointment of Tom Saintfiet as Mali’s new coach makes the clash even trickier, as the Belgian tactician is known for his tactical discipline.
“They have a new coach and so they will study us well coming into the game. But with the right support, I believe the team can go all out to win.”
The Black Stars are pushing for a record fifth World Cup appearance, and will regroup in Accra on Monday, September 1, to begin preparations for the double-header.
