Ghana forward Felix Afena-Gyan says Amedspor still believe they can secure promotion to Turkey’s top flight after a dramatic late equaliser rescued a point against Ümraniyespor.

The 23-year-old came off the bench to inspire his side to a 2-2 draw in their week 35 fixture at the Diyarbakır Stadium on Monday, delivering a crucial assist deep into stoppage time.

With Amedspor trailing and heading for defeat, Afena-Gyan set up striker Mbaye Diagne, whose late finish sparked celebrations among the home fans and kept their promotion hopes firmly alive.

The visitors had taken the lead through Batuhan Çelik in the 22nd minute, before Mehmet Yeşil levelled for Amedspor just six minutes later. Ümraniyespor regained control in the second half when Jurgen Bardhi struck in the 69th minute, seemingly putting them on course for victory.

However, the introduction of Afena-Gyan in the 60th minute proved decisive.

The former AS Roma forward made an immediate impact, bringing urgency and creativity to Amedspor’s attack before delivering the assist that salvaged a vital point.

After the match, the Ghana international, who has made eight appearances for the Ghana national team, struck an optimistic tone on social media.

“The battle is the Lord’s, we keep our heads up guys, we can do it,” he wrote.

Since joining Amedspor on loan last summer, Afena-Gyan has contributed five goals and six assists in 32 appearances, underlining his growing importance to the team.

Amedspor currently sit second in the Turkish second tier with 72 points, six behind leaders Erzurumspor FK, as the race for promotion to the Super Lig enters its final stages.
