2026 FIFA World Cup: Yaw Preko tips Black Stars to beat Chad in World Cup qualifier
28th August 2025
Former Ghana and Anderlecht forward and currently head coach of Shooting Stars Accra, Yaw Preko, asserts he is confident the Black Stars can secure victory against Chad in their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Ghana, who currently atop of Group I of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the African confederation with 15 points after six matches, will resume their campaign next month with a double-header in September. The four-time African champions travel to face Chad at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno on Thursday, September 4, before returning home to host Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, September 8.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Preko stressed the need for focus and the right mentality.
“We know what is at stake now, and if you look at our performance in our last games, the players should go into the games with that same determination,” he said.
The former Ghana international, however, cautioned that Chad could be tricky opponents, especially considering the playing surface.
“Playing against Chad will not be easy, but we have to be vigilant and also get the right players for that game because we are playing on an astro turf. But then, I strongly believe that we have what it takes to win against Chad,” he added.
The Black Stars, chasing a fifth World Cup appearance, are expected to regroup in Accra on Monday, September 1, as coach Otto Addo prepares his squad for the decisive fixtures.
