20th June 2024
Ghanaian international Abdul Aziz Yakubu has signed with Japanese club Shimizu S-Pulse.
The 25-year-old forward joins Shimizu S-Pulse on a permanent deal after concluding his contract with Portuguese side Rio Ave.
Shimizu S-Pulse activated Yakubu's termination clause to secure his services. Yakubu is set to arrive in Japan this week to undergo a medical examination before officially signing his contract.
In a statement after the move was confirmed, Yakubu expressed his excitement:
"Hello everyone. I'm Aziz Yakubu. I'm very happy to be a part of the S-Pulse family. I'm looking forward to the new challenges that lie ahead. I'll do my best to contribute to the club's goal of returning to J1. See you at the stadium."
This transfer marks Yakubu's return to Asia after spending part of 2023 in China with former champions Wuhan Three Towns.
Yakubu's journey at Rio Ave began in the 2021/22 season, where he quickly adapted and became a fan favorite due to his outstanding performances.
Over his three-year stint at Rio Ave, Yakubu made 73 appearances and scored 30 goals, establishing himself as a key player for the club.
With his move to Shimizu S-Pulse, Yakubu aims to leverage his talent and experience to help the club achieve its goals, including a return to the top tier of Japanese football, the J1 League.
