Al Habsi out but Oman confident
26th December 2018
Kuala Lumpur: Goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi's absence will be felt but Oman, who have named their final squad, will head into the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 brimming with confidence.
The reigning Gulf Cup champions are on an eight-match unbeaten run and Pim Verbeek's squad will believe they can advance to the knockout stage of the Continental showpiece for the first time.
Al Habsi, who was a mainstay in the Oman squads that played in previous editions of the AFC Asian Cup, was ruled out after suffering an injury while playing for Al Hilal against Al Ahli in a Saudi Premier League game last Friday.
Oman, drawn in Group F, will open their campaign against Uzbekistan on January 9 before facing four-time champions Japan on January 13. They play Turkmenistan in their final group match on January 17.
