Asiedu Nketia narrowly leads Julius Debrah in NDC 2028 race - new APL survey

National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia is leading the race to become the next NDC Flagbearer with a narrow margin, a survey by the Africa Policy Lens (APL) has revealed.
In the poll release today, April 21, 2026 by APL, which sought the views of NDC actors across the country, Asiedu Nketia led Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah narrowly in a survey described as "near even" by the APL.
Asiedu Nketia polled 31.9% of the polls to emerge as the leader over Julius Debrah, who polled a close 30.1%.
The two emerged as frontrunners in the race, securing over 60%, leaving a significant gap between them and the other contenders.
Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu follows at 3rd place with 17.9% while Finance, Casiel Ato Forson is next at 4th with 13.1%.
Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang follows at a distance 5th place with a paltry 3. 6% and Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa at 1.0. Others pit together by APL, secured 2.5%.
According to the APL, the poll was conducted across all 276 constituencies, adding that the study "provides a timely snapshot of support levels, voting intentions, perceptions of candidate competitiveness,
and the key factors shaping leadership preferences within the party."
