Ghana’s Black Princesses will host South Africa on Sunday, 8 February, in a crucial first-leg World Cup qualifier as they bid to move one step closer to another appearance on the global stage.

The Under-20 women’s side will kick off at 15:30 GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium, having reached this stage after beating Tunisia in the previous round of the qualifiers.

The return leg is scheduled for 14 February, 2026 in South Africa, meaning both teams know that Sunday’s encounter could prove decisive in shaping the tie.

Ghana head coach Charles Sampson says his players are fully focused and confident, drawing inspiration from the country’s strong history in the competition. The Black Princesses have qualified for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup seven times, a record that places them among Africa’s most consistent sides at this level.

Both teams have been in intensive preparation in the build-up to the match, with Ghana hoping to make home advantage count before the demanding trip south.

With a place in the world cup at stake, the stage is set for a tense and entertaining contest as two of Africa’s leading youth sides battle for the upper hand in their World Cup quest.
