Black Stars new technical team members will work without salaries - Sports Minister confirms
2nd March 2026
Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has confirmed that newly appointed members of the Black Stars technical team will not receive monthly salaries as part of their contracts.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Mr Adams said the arrangement is limited to the upcoming FIFA World Cup, after which the contracts will automatically come to an end.
“None of them will be on any salary. None of them is on a salary,” he said. “These additions are just for the World Cup. After the World Cup, the contract arrangement ends.”
Instead of fixed pay, the technical team members will receive allowances and match-related benefits similar to those available to other members of the squad. These include per diems, winning bonuses and a portion of appearance fees, although the minister clarified they will not receive the full appearance fees paid to players.
“They will benefit from some money, including maybe the appearance fees that are paid, but they will not get 100% of their appearance fees,” he explained. “Of course, they will also benefit from the winning bonuses that are entitled to any member of the team when they win, and then, of course, the per diems that are paid to team members, they will be entitled to.”
The decision marks a departure from traditional salary-based arrangements and appears aimed at limiting long-term financial commitments while strengthening the technical bench for the global tournament.
The Black Stars are preparing for the World Cup amid heightened public scrutiny over team management and performance. The latest disclosure is likely to spark debate among supporters about the sustainability and motivation behind the short-term, incentive-based structure.
