Football fans across Ghana will be left frustrated this week as the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers will not be shown on any local television station.

Traditionally, state broadcaster GTV airs national team matches, but the station has been locked out of coverage after failing to clear debts owed to FIFA from previous fixtures.

This standoff means Ghanaians will miss the chance to watch the Black Stars take on Chad in N’Djamena on Thursday, September 4, and the all-important home clash with Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, September 8.

The development has angered fans, many of whom regard Black Stars matches as a national affair that should be readily accessible to the public. Instead, supporters will be forced to rely on radio commentary or international streaming platforms to follow the games.

This is not the first time broadcast rights issues have denied Ghanaians live coverage of their national team, but the direct link to outstanding debts owed by the broadcaster makes the situation especially alarming.

With tempers flaring, fans are urging authorities to step in and resolve the impasse, stressing that the nation’s football pride must not be held hostage by financial wrangling.
