Asante Kotoko players have been promised special bonuses should they secure qualification to the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup, according to the club’s Communications Director Sarfo Duku.

The Ghana Premier League giants edged Kwara United 4–3 in a thrilling first-leg encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium last Sunday, and now travel to Abeokuta, Nigeria, for the return leg at the MKO Abiola International Stadium this weekend.

“There is always a winning bonus even in the Ghana Premier League, but qualifying from the preliminary stage will add some appreciable amount of money,” Duku told Nhyira FM.

With Kwara United’s home venue, the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl, undergoing renovations, the second leg will be played on neutral turf, a factor Duku believes tilts the balance in Kotoko’s favor.

“Asante Kotoko is ahead of Kwara United on any platform, so they should be able to account for them,” he said. “The good news is that the match will be played on a neutral ground, so there is a significant advantage for us.”

Victory would see Kotoko advance to face Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club in the second preliminary round—a major test for Karim Zito’s side as they aim to return to continental prominence.

“I assure all Kotoko fans that on Sunday after the game, Kotoko will be eligible for the next stage,” Duku added confidently.
