Former Black Stars head coach CK Akonnor has expressed his support for current manager Otto Addo, as the national team faces growing pressure following a frustrating goalless draw against Sudan.

The result has placed Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco in jeopardy.

With the second leg against Sudan—now coached by former Black Stars boss Kwesi Appiah—on the horizon, Akonnor has called on fans to stand by the team during this challenging phase.

“It’s a tough time for all of us, but it’s essential that we remain united and rally behind the Black Stars,” Akonnor told Joy Sports.

He emphasized the importance of winning the remaining matches to keep qualification hopes alive.

“Sudan is a strong side, and they are being led by someone we know and respect. But I believe this Ghana team has what it takes to win and win convincingly. What’s crucial is that we continue to support Otto Addo and the players.”

Currently third in Group F, Ghana’s path to qualification is precarious, requiring victories in all three of their remaining games to secure a spot in the tournament.

The Black Stars will face Sudan again in a vital reverse fixture set for Tuesday in Libya, where a win is critical for keeping their AFCON 2025 dreams alive.
