Denmark & World Bank withhold aid to Tanzania over “unacceptable homophobic statements”
15th November 2018

Tanzania has seen its 2nd biggest donor Denmark withhold aid to the country after what was described as “unacceptable homophobic statements.”
According to reports, Denmark is withholding $10 million in aid funds over homophobic comments made by a government official.
The comments were reportedly made by Paul Makonda, the Administrative Chief of the capital Dar es Salaam.
Makonda is said to be on an anti-gay crackdown in the city, after an announcement he made earlier in November.
The World Bank also scrapped a plan to loan Tanzania $300 million over the country’s policy to ban pregnant girls from attending school.
