Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has urged caution in the search for a new head coach of the Ghana national football team following the dismissal of Otto Addo.

‎Addo was sacked after back-to-back defeats to Austria and Germany in recent international friendlies, prompting the GFA to begin the process of finding a replacement ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

‎Speaking to Citi News, Sannie Daara stressed that while there is urgency to appoint a new coach, the decision must be guided by long-term planning rather than short-term pressure.

‎“While we are looking for a coach now, we must also think about the future,” he said. “We have a very young squad with the potential to do well… so we need a coach who will not only focus on the World Cup but can also stay long-term and stabilise the team for sustained success.”

‎The search for a new coach has attracted widespread interest, with FA president Kurt Okraku revealing that more than 600 applications have been received for the role. A new appointment is expected within the next two weeks.

‎Ghana are set to regroup in May for international friendlies against Mexico and Wales, key fixtures in their preparations for the World Cup.

‎The Black Stars, who will be making their fifth appearance at the tournament, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama, and will be aiming to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010.
