The communications director of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper West region Abdul Ibrahim Mohammed has blamed the NPP for trying to gag students of the Nalerigu college of Nursing and midwifery.

According him students of the college who last week thronged the streets of the town to welcome flagbearer of the party and former President John Dramani Mahama have the political rights as citizens and should not be victimized by the government.

Speaking in an interview with Accra based Neat FM, the party spokesperson insisted that they have heard unnecessary pressure being mounted on the principal of the college with some students being invited to the office of the regional minister.

Narrating the incidents that occurred last week he admitted that indeed students seen in videos and pictures making rounds on various social media platforms were that of students of the college.

He said that the students were organized by the school’s TEIN branch to welcome the former president but upon reaching the venue of the campaign grounds and meeting the ex-president, they began kneeling and begging with others holding placards bearing the inscription ‘JM we beg come back’.

According to him prior to the 2016 elections, Dr. Bawumia and now President Nana Akuffo-Addo were seen in tertiary school and even second cycle institutions campaigning and sees nothing wrong with what the students did.
