Ghanaian forward Ebenezer Assifuah made a decisive impact off the bench, scoring a late winner as Kedah Darul Aman clinched their first victory of the season in the Malaysian top-flight league.

Assifuah, a former FIFA U20 Golden Boot winner, entered the fray in the 70th minute, replacing Milos Gordic.

He wasted no time in making his mark, finding the net just seven minutes later against Penang FC on the road.

In the 77th minute, the 30-year-old forward outmaneuvered the Penang goalkeeper before calmly slotting home, securing a 1-0 win for Kedah and breaking their winless streak of four matches.

Assifuah, who moved to Kedah in January 2023 after a decade in Europe, signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Northern Malaysia-based club.

His goal underscores his potential to play a pivotal role in Kedah's aspirations for a strong finish in the 2024/25 season.

On the opposing side, Assifuah's compatriot Richmond Ankrah featured for Penang FC, completing the full duration of the game.

Ankrah, a former player for Accra Lions, contributed to Penang's defensive efforts despite their defeat.

Assifuah's impactful performance highlights his ability to influence matches and provide crucial goals, setting a positive tone for Kedah as they navigate the challenges of the Malaysian league campaign ahead.
