English-Ghanaian winger Owura Edwards played a decisive role as Colchester United came from behind to secure a 2–1 victory over Accrington Stanley in a tightly contested League Two encounter.
The match, held at the JobServe Community Stadium, saw the visitors take the lead in the 33rd minute through Shaun Whalley, putting pressure on the home side.
However, Edwards helped shift the momentum just before the break. The 25-year-old drove purposefully at the Accrington defence before setting up Will Goodwin, who calmly finished to bring Colchester level at 1–1 in the 43rd minute.
The equaliser galvanised the hosts, who returned after half-time with renewed intensity, dominating possession and creating the better chances. Their persistence paid off late in the game when Jack Payne struck in the 86th minute to complete the turnaround and seal all three points.
Edwards’ contribution continues a quietly impressive campaign, with the winger now registering one goal and four assists in 33 League Two appearances this season. His pace and creativity on the flank have increasingly become a key asset for Colchester.
Managed by Danny Cowley, Colchester will look to build on this result when they travel to face Harrogate Town on Saturday, 18 April.
