The Ghana Police Service says it has arrested two suspects, including an alleged gang leader, in connection with the armed robbery attack on the team bus of Berekum Chelseathat left forward Dominic Frimpong dead.

The incident took place last Sunday along the Bibiani–Goaso road after the Ghana Premier League side had played a league fixture against FC Samartex at DUN’s Park.

Police reports indicate that armed men blocked the road and opened fire when the team’s driver attempted to reverse upon spotting the obstruction. Players and officials were forced to flee into nearby bushes as gunshots rang out.

During the attack, Frimpong, a 20-year-old on loan from Aduana FC, sustained a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to Bibiani Government Hospital but was later pronounced dead. Six other players suffered minor injuries.

A police manhunt was subsequently launched, leading to the arrest of two individuals. Authorities say one of the suspects was injured during an exchange of fire with intelligence officers and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Frimpong, who had scored two goals in 13 league appearances this season, had been regarded as a promising talent. His death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from across the football world, including messages from FIFA and the Confederation of African Football, as well as several clubs.

Police say investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to bring all those responsible to justice.
