Ex-Black Stars defender Edwin Gyimah says family betrayal left him homeless

Former Ghana international Edwin Gyimah has made an emotional appeal after revealing he is homeless and struggling to survive, blaming what he describes as betrayal by members of his own family.
The 35-year-old, who last played for Sekhukhune United in 2024, spoke candidly during an interview on Oyerepa FM in Kumasi, where he appeared visibly distressed as he detailed his current situation.
Gyimah said he has been unable to secure a new contract despite multiple opportunities, adding that his pleas for support from family members have gone unanswered. According to him, relatives are occupying an eight-bedroom house he built, while he has no place to stay.
He also described an ongoing property dispute involving his sister, alleging that an agreement over ownership of his house has broken down and worsened his circumstances.
The former defender further claimed that his struggles date back to his playing days with the Ghana national football team, alleging he faced unexplained physical challenges which he believes had spiritual causes.
Gyimah earned 10 caps for Ghana between 2012 and 2016 and enjoyed a solid career in South Africa with clubs including Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United.
Once financially stable during his playing career, he now says he is struggling to provide for his wife and children, with his prolonged absence from professional football suggesting a premature end to his career.
His situation has sparked concern within the football community, with calls growing for support for the former international as he navigates a difficult period in his life.
