Ex-GFA technical director Oti Akenteng calls for review of Black Stars management committee bonuses

Francis Oti Akenteng, former Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has called for a reassessment of the financial rewards given to members of the Black Stars Management Committee.

His comments were made during a session with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Culture, and Tourism, where he addressed several issues concerning football governance in Ghana.

Oti Akenteng's concerns were sparked by reports that each Management Committee member received $100,000 following Ghana’s participation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, despite the team’s early exit from the tournament.

While recognizing the importance of compensating committee members for their contributions, he questioned the appropriateness of such large sums.

“If you look at some of their roles, it’s not bad except that you cannot be paying everybody like we are hearing, like I’m hearing that some people took $100,000 for being a member of the management committee," Akenteng remarked.

"Probably the person attended a meeting once or twice, but he is a member of the Black Stars Management Committee.

They are working, they must be remunerated, but not to that extent," he added.

Ghana's performance at the 2022 World Cup saw them manage a win against South Korea but suffer defeats against Portugal and Uruguay, resulting in an early exit during the group stage.
