Ex-Prez Akufo-Addo, NPP big wigs grieve with family of Daddy Lumba

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, together with members of the Minority in Parliament and notable figures from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), paid a visit to the family of the late Highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, on Friday, August 1.
The visit, held at the musician’s residence, was filled with deep emotion as Akufo-Addo, visibly moved, shed tears while receiving the official news of the musician’s passing. Daddy Lumba died on Saturday, July 26, at the Bank Hospital in Accra after a brief illness.
In a moving tribute to the late artist, the former President spoke of Daddy Lumba’s immense impact on the nation’s music scene and on his own political journey.
He acknowledged how the musician’s campaign songs played a vital role in boosting his popularity across the country, stating that his name had become a household one in large part due to Lumba’s music, which resonated with people from all walks of life.
Akufo-Addo noted that he had made efforts to express his appreciation while the musician was still alive, ensuring he was honoured for his contributions.
He offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, describing Lumba’s death as a great loss and pledging his full support during the funeral arrangements.
He requested to be included in all activities leading up to the burial, emphasizing how much the musician meant to him personally and to the nation. He also extended his support to Lumba’s widow and promised to stand by the children left behind.
Akufo-Addo was accompanied by several prominent individuals, including former Chief of Staff Frema Osei-Opare, former government ministers, Members of Parliament, and key NPP figures such as Gabby Otchere-Darko.
As part of his visit, he made a donation of assorted drinks to the family.
Daddy Lumba is remembered as one of Ghana’s most celebrated musicians, with a career that spanned over three decades and left behind a legacy of timeless music that continues to influence generations.
