Fire guts Accra Tourist Information Centre
4th August 2025
A fire broke out early today morning at the Accra Tourist Information Centre, located opposite Afrikiko in the heart of Ghana’s capital.
The blaze, which began around 1:00 a.m. on August 4, is yet to be fully contained, as firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) continue efforts to bring it under control. The exact cause remains unknown.
Eyewitnesses suggest the flames may have started in the kitchen of Rockz Waakye, a popular food vendor operating on the premises. However, this has not been confirmed, and investigations are ongoing.
No injuries or casualties have been reported so far.
In a separate incident on Sunday, more than 50 wooden structures and metal containers were destroyed in a fire at Madina Ritz Junction. The blaze, which reportedly began at a washing bay within the slum area, displaced dozens of residents.
Personnel from the Madina Fire Station responded swiftly to contain the flames and prevent further spread.
Investigations into both incidents are underway.
