Galamsey: Nine mining companies sue Paramount Chief of Atti-Morkwa

The embattled Paramount chief of the Atti-Morkwa Traditional Area in the Central Region, Oseadeeyo Kwesi Kennin IV, already embroiled in legal challenges over alleged illegal mining, now faces a fresh lawsuit.
Nine additional mining companies have taken the chief to court, accusing him of illegally mining on their concessions.
These companies claim Oseadeeyo Kwesi Kennin IV has unlawfully trespassed on their mining lands, further complicating his ongoing legal battles.
Previously, Kadesh Mining Enterprise had sued the Chief for allegedly conducting unauthorized mining operations on their concession, also in the Central Region.
This new legal action adds to the mounting legal pressure on him.
The nine mining firms are seeking a court order to prevent the Chief and his workers from encroaching on their concessions.
They are also demanding that the court mandate the restoration and reclamation of the mined areas.
During a court session on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, His Lordship Samuel Faraday Johnson, who is overseeing the case, adjourned proceedings to October 28, 2024.
The judge is awaiting a ruling from the Kumasi High Court regarding the jurisdiction in the case involving Kadesh Mining Enterprise and the Paramount Chief.
