Ghana is on my heart- Dutch-born Como winger, Jayden Addai in a dilemma over nationality

Jayden Addai, the talented Como winger currently thriving in Italy, has revealed he’s facing a difficult decision over his international future — choosing between representing the Netherlands or Ghana.
The Dutch-born 21-year-old, who moved from AZ Alkmaar this summer, has already featured for Holland at youth level, but remains eligible for Ghana’s senior national team.
“I have the option to choose… Certainly, Ghana is truly in my heart. Both my parents are Ghanaian. I grew up Ghanaian, in the Netherlands. So that makes it difficult,” Addai told VI PRO.
Addai explained that his limited youth appearances were due to passport issues. He now holds both Dutch and Ghanaian passports, making him eligible for either nation.
“I only had a Ghanaian passport, but for a few years now I've had both… There's also the World Cup coming up, which is a great tournament.”
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup just months away, Addai hopes to settle on a decision that could shape his career trajectory.
Addai is currently part of the Netherlands U21 squad for matches against Bosnia Herzegovina and Lithuania, though manager John Reiziger admits the path to the senior team is not guaranteed.
“Good wingers are interesting for us, but perhaps also for the Dutch national team in the long run,” Reiziger said.
“Of course I discuss that with Ronald [Koeman]: young players who might have a future.”
