Ghanaian international Alexander Djiku joins Russian outfit Spartak Moscow

Ghanaian defender, Alexander Djiku joins Spartak Moscow from Fenerbahce.
The dependable Ghanaian centre half joins the Russian outfit after spending a season with Turkish giants, Fenerbahce on a two-year deal after spending the 2024/25 season with the “Yellow Navy Blues” in the Turkish SuperLig.
He initially signed a two-year deal with the Turkish outfit but spent just a season wih them, featuring in a great number of games for the side across all competitions, featuring in the domestic and continental championships under the guidance of renowned coach Jose Mourinho.
Djiku, 31, is expected to bring vast amounts of experience into the Russian outfit, having already featured for clubs like Strasbourg in the French Ligue 1 as well as Caen and Bastia, featuring in over 320 top tier games and is seen as a seasoned player with immense expertise in his craft.
The rock-solid defender was the talk of the headlines when he scored Ghana’s solitary goal in the Matchday 8 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers as his lone goals was enough to annihilate the Eagles of Mali on home soil.
This season, he has featured in only one game for Fenerbahce after three league games prior to his transfer to Spartak Moscow. Over the pas season with Fenerbahce, the Ghanaian defender scored one goal in 38 games across all competitions.
The Montpellier-born Ghanaian international has featured for the Black Stars 34 times and notching three goals for the national team. He marked his debut for the Black Stars in October 2020 when Ghana lost 3-0 to Mali, the nation he scored against in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in front of the home crowd in Accra on Monday, September 8.
