Ghana’s economy showing positive recovery signs – Allotey-Gaisie
7th March 2026
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, Alfred Allotey-Gaisie, says Ghana’s economic indicators show signs of stronger fiscal discipline aimed at stabilising and strengthening the economy.
Speaking during the 69th Ghana Independence Day celebrations on Friday, March 6, 2026, Mr. Allotey-Gaisie said the improvements in key economic indicators are critical to restoring hope and creating prosperity for citizens.
He pointed to a notable decline in the cost of living over the past year as evidence of progress.
According to him, inflation, which stood at about 20 percent in early 2025, dropped significantly to around 5.4 percent by December 2025 and further declined to 3.8 percent in January 2026, reflecting improved price stability.
Mr. Allotey-Gaisie also indicated that the Ghanaian cedi has strengthened against major foreign currencies, supported by improved foreign reserves and better fiscal management.
He further announced that the government’s “nkoko nkitinkiti” initiative, aimed at boosting local poultry production, will be launched next week.
“I am pleased to inform you that the assembly has been allocated 10,000 birds under the programme,” he said.
Mr. Allotey-Gaisie added that 199 individuals have so far registered to participate in the initiative, including 72 men and 27 women.
