Ghana’s Fella Makafui stars in Netflix series Anikulapo: The Ghoul Awakens

Ghana is celebrating as acclaimed actress Fella Makafui takes on a major role in the international Netflix series Anikulapo: The Ghoul Awakens, set to debut globally on January 30, 2026.

The upcoming season, part of the expanding Anikulapo saga created by award-winning Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, continues the epic story first introduced in the 2022 Netflix film Aníkúlápó and its follow-up series Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre.

The original film and subsequent series blend fantasy, love, betrayal, supernatural lore and cultural history, drawing on rich African storytelling traditions.

About the Series and New Season

• Aníkúlápó began as a 2022 epic fantasy film that follows Saro, a cloth weaver who is mysteriously reborn by a mystical bird and thrust into world-shaking events.


• Its first Netflix series follow-up, Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre, premiered in March 2024, exploring Saro’s return from the afterlife and the new trials he faces.


• Anikulapo: The Ghoul Awakens — Season 2 — is described as a continuation that deepens the story’s mythical and political stakes, with supernatural activity, kingdom struggles, and themes of power and loyalty playing out across new settings.
