The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has confirmed the arrest of one of its personnel, Assistant Immigration Control Officer I (AICO I) Ahmed Abdul Samad, in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation being conducted by the Ghana Police Service.
In a statement, GIS said the officer was released to the Police by its Upper East Regional Command after a formal request was made to assist with investigations. The probe relates to his alleged involvement in the transportation of a large cache of ammunition that was intercepted by security agencies.
The Service stressed that it will not protect or shield any officer whose conduct undermines public safety or brings the institution into disrepute.
“GIS remains fully committed to professionalism, accountability and national security,” the statement noted, adding that the Service is working closely with the Ghana Police Service to ensure a thorough investigation.
GIS further assured the public that appropriate disciplinary and legal action will be taken against any officer found culpable, in line with the law and established service regulations.
