GoldBod Jewellery Limited has clarified its involvement in the Women of Valour event following criticism from Ghanaians on social media, who believed the state-linked jewellery brand had sponsored the programme.
The controversy arose after videos and images circulating online listed GoldBod among the event’s partners, prompting backlash from some netizens questioning why a government-affiliated company would support what they perceived as a private event.
In a statement posted on its X page on March 8, 2026, the company explained that it did not provide financial support for the event. It was listed as a partner solely because it offered promotional discounts to participants.
“GoldBod Jewellery Limited is listed as one of the partners of this year’s Women of Valour event because the company offered discounts on jewellery purchases to participants of the programme as part of our ongoing Ghana Heritage Month promotions, similar to our Valentine’s Month discounts,” the statement said.
The company emphasised that its involvement was purely promotional and not financial. “The company did not contribute funds toward the organisation of the event,” it added.
According to GoldBod Jewellery, the promotional offer aligns with its broader mission to market locally produced jewellery while celebrating Ghanaian heritage. “At GoldBod Jewellery, we focus on manufacturing and retailing timeless pieces of made-in-Ghana jewellery for our valued customers in Ghana and abroad,” the statement noted.
The Women of Valour event, founded by renowned broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah, brought together women from diverse backgrounds at the London Hilton on Park Lane on March 7, 2026, to network and celebrate International Women’s Day.
Some social media users had questioned the company’s recognition as a partner, suggesting public resources may have been used. Others argued the event was not broadly accessible to the public despite being promoted as an empowerment programme.
GoldBod’s statement sought to dispel these concerns, clarifying that the company’s role was limited to promotional support and did not involve financial sponsorship.
