Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi impressed Ross Barkley on his full England debut on Monday evening.
The 18-year-old became him the fourth youngest England starter in the post-war era in the 5-1 win.
Hudson-Odoi even helped himself to an assist, though he may have been on the scoresheet instead were it not for Barkley.
“I haven’t seen the goal back and I’m not sure if it was going in,” Barkley told beIN Sports after the game.
“If it was going in I will be disappointed because I know how gutted he will be, he thrives off scoring and assisting.”
Team-mates at club level, Barkley was delighted with the opportunity handed to Hudson-Odoi by Gareth Southgate, with his first England start even coming before his first Premier League start for the Blues.
“He is really happy with the performance,” Barkley said.
“I’m happy he got a start because the sky is the limit for him.
“He is a great lad and really mature for his age and he is going to keep developing, we have a real player there.”
