National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for the Juaboso constituency, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has been explaining how his colleague MP for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu Ekufful ended up on his laps in Parliament House.

According to Akandoh, he never consented to the idea of the Communications Minister sitting on his lap.

This incident took place amidst confusion in the Parliamentary Chamber during the early hours Thursday during the dissolution of the 7th Parliament of the Republic of Ghana.

There was chaos in the House after the NDC MPs occupied the seats meant for their New Patriotic Party (NPP) colleagues.

Explaining the scenario to the media, Mr Akandoh said when Ursula Owusu entered the Chamber, she refused to sit with her NPP colleagues and rather moved to the other side.

“We sat at the majority side, the right-hand side of where the speaker sits. So when they came in, all of them moved to the minority, the left side and sat down. Ursula refused to go to that side,” he said.

He further explained that when Mrs Ekufful got up from the seat to go to the washroom, he went to occupy that seat.

“And when she came back, she sat on my lap. She just sat on my lap. I didn’t want to touch her,” said Akandoh.

He said his wife has not commented on the incident yet, stressing he was not at fault for the incident.

“She sat on my lap. I didn’t sit on her lap. My wife should be complaining and not her husband.”

He added that he did not want to touch her to avoid “meeting her with a little force.”
