IEAG backs Publican AI system, dismisses reports of opposition

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has reaffirmed its support for the implementation of the Publican Artificial Intelligence (AI) system at Ghana’s ports, dismissing claims that it remains opposed to the platform.
In a statement issued on Thursday, April 9, 2026, the Association described such reports as “misleading, outdated, and not reflective of its current position.”
IEAG explained that concerns it raised in 2025 centred on issues including stakeholder consultation, data security, transparency, and system integration.
However, it noted that these concerns were subsequently addressed through engagements with the government, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), leading to improvements in the system’s rollout.
“As a result of these consultations and the good faith demonstrated by government in addressing stakeholder concerns, the IEAG wishes to state unequivocally that it supports the Publican AI System, which has since been implemented,” the statement said.
While acknowledging some operational challenges during the implementation phase, the Association described them as typical of large-scale reforms and noted that efforts are ongoing to resolve them.
IEAG further highlighted the expected benefits of the system, including enhanced revenue mobilisation, reduced leakages, and improved transparency in port operations.
The Association also cautioned against the use of outdated reports to misrepresent its position, urging the public to rely on its latest official communication.
