Jeremie Frimpong excited about first visit to Ghana
23rd December 2024
Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong expressed his excitement and joy upon arriving in Ghana for the first time on Sunday night.
The 23-year-old Netherlands international, whose parents are Ghanaian, was warmly welcomed at Kotoka International Airport as he began a one-week holiday trip.
Frimpong had previously shared his plans to visit Ghana after Bayer Leverkusen’s Champions League victory over Inter Milan earlier in December, and he stayed true to his word.
His arrival marks a significant moment as he fulfills a long-held desire to connect with his roots.
Speaking to reporters on his arrival, Frimpong couldn’t hide his happiness: "Amazing. To come to this welcoming atmosphere for the first time, amazing.
This is my people. I’m so happy to see everybody; I’m so happy to be in Ghana."
Reflecting on his connection to Ghana, he said, “I’ve always been connected to my Ghanaian roots.
Both my parents are Ghanaians, I eat Ghanaian food, I speak the language, so I feel like I’ve always been connected, but obviously being here makes it extra special.”
Frimpong emphasized the importance of the trip, stating, "I have to come to Ghana; this is where I am from. My blood is Ghanaian blood, so for sure I had to come here one day, and this is the right time to come."
Frimpong has had a stellar season with Bayer Leverkusen, contributing 16 goals last season as the team claimed their first Bundesliga title with an undefeated run.
His visit to Ghana is a heartfelt connection to his heritage, as the talented full-back continues to embrace both his Ghanaian roots and his international football career.
