Ghanaian defender Jonas Adjei Adjetey could not hide his excitement after playing a role in FC Basel's triumphs as they secured the domestic double in a historic fashion, clinching their first Swiss Super League title in seven years, as well as a domestic cup feat to complete the 2025-2026 Swiss football season on a high note.

The 21-year-old former Berekum Chelsea centre half played a key role in the Swiss club’s continued successes during the 2024/25  Swiss football season, making 38 appearances in all competitions; a bettered number compared to the previous campaign where he started just 11 league games.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Flashscore, Adjetey reflected on the breakthrough 2024-2025 season that saw him lift the first two major trophies of his professional career.
“For me, nothing really changed, but I just tried to do my best and then try to fit in the first team. But when I started, I was training with the first team and was playing with the second team. Then there was an injury to a teammate. I came in, and then I took my chance, and then right from there, I built on it.”

Basel’s dominant season ended with them securing their 21st league title, finishing 10 points clear of rivals and 2024-2025 UEFA Europa Conference League participants, Servette FC.

For the former Teshie Football Academy and Accra Great Olympics defender, the title carried extensive personal significance. “For me, it's meant so much for me because this is my first trophy. We jubilated after the Lugano game. Almost all the players came to the dressing room. We celebrated with the fans. During that week, we had like two celebrations."

Jonas made his senior national team debut with the Black Stars in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan away, when he came on for injured Mohammed Salisu on the 73rd minute in the 2-0 loss. He grabbed his second international cap in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier Matchday 6 against Madagascar in Morocco when he came on as a late substitute for Jerome Opoku in the 3-0 victory.
